5M MIGROS BEYLIKDUZU AND 5M MIGROS BODRUM WERE OPENED AT THE SAME TIME

5M Beylikduzu Migros store reconstructed shortly after the fire broke out in November of 2011 was put into service by a ceremony in which the Board Member of Koc Holding and the Board Chairman of Vehbi Koc Foundation Semahat Arsel, the Chairman of Honour of Koc Holding Rahmi Koc and the Board Chairman of Migros Ticaret A.S. Bulend Ozaydinli participated. Ozaydinli, saying “We are having double happiness as Migros Group” stated that 5M Bodrum Migros was opened in Bodrum simultaneously while cutting the ribbon of 5M Beylikduzu Migros and continued by saying: “That we are opening 2 ea 5M at the distance of 830 km from each other at the same time on the same day is the result of our 58-year experience. Today, we are adding 17.000 m2 to our existing selling space with these two stores.”

Being one of the most important points where Migros Ticaret A.S. meets with the consumer, but having had to close its doors to the consumers due to the fire broke out in November of 2011, 5M Beylikduzu Migros was put into service again. The opening ceremony in which the Board Member of Koc Holding and the Board Chairman of Vehbi Koc Foundation Semahat Ersel, the Chairman of Honour of Koc Holding Rahmi Koc and the Board Chairman of Migros Ticaret A.S. Bulend Ozaydinli participated also witnessed something new. The opening of 5M Bodrum Migros was performed as well at the same time when the ribbon in Beylikduzu was cut. In this way, Migros added an area of 17 thousand square meters to the total selling space by the opening of two hypermarkets in one day.

Stating that Migros Ticaret A.S. have brought the Turkish consumer and all opportunities of modern retail together for 58 years, Bulend Ozaydinli continued by saying: “5M Beylikduzu Migros has been the most important point where Migros Group meets the consumer since its opening. Unfortunately, our store became unserviceable due to an unfortunate fire last year. Such lean times are sometimes unavoidable for both people and institutions, but what is important is the attitude after such times.” Ozaydinli said that they took action in a very rapid manner in order to remove the traces of the situation experienced after this incident. He thanked Koc Family that had provided great support to the growth of Migros as leading partner for 34 years until 2008 and that is still the owner of 5M Beylikduzu real estate for the support it provided after such sad fire, the people of Beylikduzu who had never left Migros alone during such period, and Allianz and Yapi Kredi Sigorta which are the insurance companies allowing for reopening the doors with their sound structures.

Declaring that they, as Migros Group, brought 5M Beylikduzu Migros and its customers together again on the one hand and that another 5M was put into service simultaneously in Bodrum on the other hand Ozaydinli said, “We are having double happiness today as Migros Group. That we are opening 2 ea 5M at the distance of 830 km from each other at the same time on the same day is the result of our 58-year experience. We are adding 17.000 m2 to our existing selling space with these two stores. We symbolized this record with the world’s largest shopping cart record. These two 5M open their doors on the same day with their economy and service”. Ozaydinli expressed that there were times when Migros Group opened 8 stores in a week, but opening 2 hypermarkets on the same day is possible today for the first time in 58 years.

Bulend Ozaydinli said that Migros Group acts with innovation and leadership vision against any kind of cyclical situation with its deep-rooted history and also that 5M Beylikduzu Store put into service again is a very special store which exhibits all examples of such understanding. Stating that Migros Group is progressing on the road to growth pertinaciously, Bulend Ozaydinli said: “We will contribute to such power of Turkey by opening 2 new stores in a week in the format of supermarket and 5M in this year. Turkey is growing by becoming stronger; the development in retail sector is a nice example of such consolidation”.

Expressing that the contributions of the organized retail to the Turkish economy, the goods and services, and the employment within the last 20 years play an essential role in the current power of Turkey, Ozaydinli said: “Migros took the lead of the organized retail sector and put the rapid growth principle into effect in parallel with the application of free market economy in Turkey in 1990s. It made serious contributions to the improvement of the supermarket sector not only in Turkey, but also by applying the technological principles in the global sector”. Ozaydinli continued by saying: “The organized retail has developed and corroborated both the recorded economy and the people’s lives by merging with the dynamic young population within the last 20 years. Today, Turkey is in the position of fifth great retail market in the European league. That the organized retail grows the recorded economy through the taxes paid is one of the areas of top priority for the Turkish economy. The total VAT provided by the organized retail within the last 5 years was 35 billion dollars at the end of 2011. Migros Group solely ranked number 24 in the corporate tax record holders ranking in 2011. The organized retail also creates recorded employment more than 600 thousand people. In addition to this, the organized market played a role in the diversification of the goods and services, the increase of the employment and, as a result of these, the growth of the supply and demand volume and increased the access of the developing geography to these goods and services easily. By the support of SMEs, the yesterday’s SMEs have become today’s large-scale enterprises.’’ Mentioning that the services which are continually competing with each other move the sector forward, Ozaydinli stated that a much wider world is being created for the customers and manufacturers while the organized retail is growing the recorded economy.

Migros Ticaret A.S. closed 2011 with a turnover valued at 5.8 billion TL by a growth of 11.5 % and the target of 2012 was explained as a turnover valued at 6.4 billion TL. Ozaydinli said: “With this turnover, we are giving the turnover of Sok, which we handed over together with its 1243 stores in 2011, to Migros within a year. We are clenching our power in the supermarket sector more and more”. Bulend Ozaydinli also gave information about the financial results for the first three months. Declaring that they have grown at the rate of 14.5 % within the first quarter as per the first quarter results of 2012 and that the operational profitability is consolidated more and more by efficient steps, Ozaydinli underlined that the increase of efficiency in parallel with the growth in retail is the most important indication of sustainability. The total number of stores of Migros Group reached to 818 and the size of selling space to 834 thousand square meters as of 15th June. Migros Group the main focus of which is supermarket sector has 3 different brands in this lane as Migros with 551 stores throughout Turkey, as Tansas with 205 stores in the Aegean and Mediterranean Regions, and as Macrocenter with 15 stores opened also in Bodrum and Antalya. The number of 5Ms which are becoming widespread in great metropolis increased to 18 with two new 5Ms. Ramstores are located in two countries with 29 stores and shopping malls.
